The Vibes
Hikers unite!! ... Hey dope souls! We’re back for the 2025 hike season and kicking off Black History Month where history, nature, and community collide—Cascade Springs Nature Preserve. This 2.5-mile easy loop is more than just a trail; as an Atlanta native, it’s a journey through a story that’s shaped our city and our people.
Nestled in Atlanta’s historic Cascade Heights, this preserve is a hidden oasis with waterfalls, lush forests, and remnants of the Battle of Utoy Creek, a Civil War fight that left its mark on this land. But there’s so much more to this space than meets the eye!
This hike is geared to be more than just a walk—it’s a celebration of resilience, community, and connection. Whether this is your first hike with Down2Earth or you’ve been rocking with us for a while, you’ll leave feeling inspired and recharged.
Let’s start the month of February off right—walking through history, honoring our roots, and embracing the beauty right here around us and within arms reach.
Please plan to bring with you: snacks/a lite lunch, plenty of water, and your great vibes!
Parking - free, gravel lot.
Restrooms - No. Unfortunately there are no restrooms at this trailhead.
Trail lot tends to fill quickly, early arrival is suggested.
Great for hikers, beginner and experienced.
What to Bring:
Water, hydration drinks, snacks, and a light lunch. First-Aid supplies, any medications you may need, trekking poles for stability. Hammocks, journals, and blankets welcomed. Let’s keep ourselves energized while being mindful of sustainability!
Mindful Tips:
Be sure to wear sturdy footwear with good grip and support; dressing in layers that can be easily added or removed for your comfort while moving.
Pack a lunch w/ protein packed snacks, to enjoy and fuel up while taking in the spectacular views.
It can be chilly when we stop, so layer up and bring something warm for when we stop, before looping back around.
Leave No Trace: Pack out what you bring on the trails.
Leave nature as you find it - leaving rocks, leaves, trees, mushrooms, and flowers on the trail.
Be respectful of others, wildlife, and nature!
Pause for a moment of gratitude and reflection near the waterfall.
